The Three Lions skipper grabbed the 85th-winner and  also played a part in Jesse Lingard’s leveller. And boss Gareth Southgate said: “Harry is the best goalscorer in the world, frankly.

“You’re always loath to take a player off of his ability.

“People have questioned some of those decisions over the summer but he’s our main penalty taker, our leader.

“In 98 per cent of the games, his hold-up play and goalscoring is critical.

“We have huge belief in him. He’s so hungry to lead the team on and further.”

WHEN England got the equaliser through Jesse Lingard, I turned to my son and said, ‘we’ll win this now’.

It’s not often we have believed that when watching England in recent years.

We beat Spain away when the pressure was off, now we’ve beaten Croatia at home when all the pressure was on.

That sends a message to other countries, the big countries, when we play them again in the Nations League finals and beyond.

They now know England are a force to be reckoned with. We belong at this level and are not fazed by this level of opposition any more.
