Switzerland fell two goals behind within 17 minutes, but their sensational comeback began when they were awarded a penalty.

But fans applauded the 27-year-old winger for his starring role in their Uefa Nations League victory and the supporting role he played in three of the five goals.

Commentators covering the game for Sky Sports praised Shaqiri's involvement throughout the game, but he was labelled a 'genius' for his sensational skill where he was cornered by two Belgians.

Shaqiri was tight on the right wing, but remained calm despite no obvious escape route- a back pass to Kevin Mbapu was his solution.

His ability to read Mbapu's movement was incredible and it allowed Mbapu to find Haris Seferovic in the box, enabling him to complete his hat-trick with a header.

The sensational skill drew praise from fans on twitter, with one claiming his pass had sent Belgium on a nice holiday.

Another praised it by calling it 'pure filth'.

The Belgian squad couldn't contain the Liverpool ace, during their 5-2 thrashing, despite their team being made up of a who's who of football.

The Swiss star has shone since he made his £13million move from Stoke City in the summer.

And the former Bayern and Inter Milan man has been praised by his new boss and given more game time as a result.

He bagged his first and second goal for the Reds in their 4-1 demolition of Cardiff and their 2-0 win over Fulham.

But Jurgen Klopp believes there's still more to come from Shaqiri, when asked by LFC.com if the winger had lived up to expectations, Klopp said: "Yeah, or even more. What can I say?

"He's just a fantastic boy on top, that's really good, and he knows that he has so much potential still.

"But of course he's the guy for decisive moments, that's how it is, and we have to make sure that it stays like this."
