Man City star Bernardo Silva doubt for West Ham clash after joining growing list of Premier League injuries while away with Portugal

BERNARDO SILVA has joined the ever-growing list of stars who will return to the Premier League after the international break carrying an injury, it has been revealed.

The Manchester City star was to have started for Portugal in their UEFA Nations League clash with Poland tomorrow night, but he has returned to his club today ahead of schedule, according to the O Jogo website.

He must now be considered likely to miss City’s Premier League match against a resurgent West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.

Silva seems to have picked up an unspecified knock in Portugal’s 0-0 draw with Italy in Milan on Saturday night – a result that saw the visitors qualify for the semi-finals of the Nations League.

The midfielder played the whole 90 minutes of the match which was largely dominated by the home side and was not noticeably injured when he left the field.

But the Portuguese FA then issued the following statement: “Following medical and diagnostic tests performed by the FPF Health and Performance Unit, player Bernardo Silva was considered unavailable for the meeting against Poland, to be held this Tuesday in Guimaraes.”

The elegant City ace is just one of a growing number of Premier League stars who will return to their clubs having picked up injuries on international duty.

Jordan Henderson failed to make the bench for England’s win over Croatia at Wembley with a hamstring strain, while Marcus Rashford limped off after 73 minutes of the match.

Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic missed the same game with a leg muscle pull, while Rashford’s Manchester United team mate Romelu Lukaku was left out of Belgium’s squad for their defeat in Switzerland, also due to a hamstring problem.

Elsewhere Wolves defender Jonny Otto suffered a knee ligament tear during Spain’s 1-0 win over Bosnia, and will be sidelined for up to six weeks.

Paul Dummett suffered a nightmare debut for Wales, suffering an injury that saw him substituted in the 39th minute of the Dragons’ loss to Denmark, and is now doubtful for Newcastle’s trip to Burnley on Monday night.

Finally, Mario Lemina is a doubt for Southampton’s crunch trip to Fulham on Saturday after picking up a knock on international duty with Gabon.
