Chelsea wonderkid Callum Hudson-Odoi keen on becoming latest youngster to move to Germany with Bayern Munich leading the race to sign him

BAYERN MUNICH are leading the chase for young Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The German giants are keen to push through a move for the 18-year-old in January.

Hudson-Odoi’s current contract with the Blues has 18 months to run but he is stalling over a new deal because of his lack of first-team opportunities.

The Under-17 World Cup winner has seen former England team-mate Jadon Sancho flourish at Borussia Dortmund and make his senior international debut since leaving Manchester City.

And with Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson gaining experience on loan at Hoffenheim, Hudson-Odoi is keen to try his luck in Germany, too.

Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal have also expressed interest in Hudson-Odoi, but Bayern are in pole position.

Chelsea youngsters Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi and Ampadu should be played by Sarri in new formation

MAURIZIO SARRI must now be prepared to shake the Blues up after Saturday’s disastrous 3-1 defeat to Tottenham left question marks over his team’s top-four aims.

It’s in midfield where the biggest change needs to occur, with Sarri currently operating with one holding and two further forward.

With N'Golo Kante in a deeper role and Jorginho making things tick, a marauding Ruben Loftus-Cheek would be a perfectly complementary piece further up the pitch – like a Dries Mertens-type player.

Callum Hudson-Odoi must join Loftus-Cheek in a new-look attack – with Ethan Ampadu the perfect replacement for under-fire David Luiz.

Simply put, moving forward, Chelsea must utilise their talented youngster… not only to safeguard their future but to win now.

The Bundesliga champions missed out on Sancho and are don’t want to let slip a player they regard as a possible long-term successor to Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

The biggest stumbling block will be Chelsea’s attitude to letting such a highly-rated homegrown player leave and they would seek a huge fee, if he tried to force through a move.

Hudson-Odoi started the Community Shield defeat by Manchester City but has not made the 18-man squad for any of Chelsea’s Premier League games.

His two first-team appearances, totalling 35 minutes of action, have come as a substitute in Europa League matches against BATE Borisov.

Earlier today, Maurizio Sarri had his say on Hudson-Odoi, claiming: "he has to improve a lot. First of all in the defensive phase.

"He has to work and he is very good in the one on one, but he has to move without the ball.

"The potential he is a very good player, but he has to work. But this is normal. He is 18. I want to find space for him. It is not easy because we have 28 players.

"For me it is not easy to put him in the starting XI. Maybe on the bench in the PL there was Moses or Pedro so it is difficult to not put them on the bench.

"I will try to find the space for him.

"He is in the 18 players for the match tomorrow, but I don’t know if he will start."
