Ballon d’Or: Neymar skips ceremony to play Call of Duty as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo also snub glitzy bash

NEYMAR snubbed the Ballon d'Or awards ceremony last night along with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – and spent the evening playing Call of Duty instead.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward, 26, who came third was not expected to win his first Ballon d'Or so went online with his team-mates Thiago Silva and Marquinhos.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 was released in October and the PSG trio played a multiplayer game together which was available to be watched via streams across the world.

The Brazilian players were out of the running for any accolades after their club side were knocked out in the Champions League in last 16 and the national team only reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

But Neymar's partner in crime Kylian Mbappe was at the event – conveniently held in Paris – and picked up the inaugural Kopa Trophy for the best under-21 player.

He also came fourth in the Ballon d'Or as Luka Modric ended the ten-year duopoly of Messi and Ronaldo after a stellar season for Real Madrid and Croatia – and then credited Harry Redknapp.

Messi finished outside the top three for the first time since 2006 and came fifth in the vote.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, was second ahead of World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann.

And Juventus hero Ronaldo also declined the chance to travel to France for the event, which was overshadowed by a sexism storm.

Upon receiving the first Women's Ballon d'Or, Ada Hegerberg was asked by French DJ Martin Solveig to "twerk".

The Lyon and Norway star simply said "no" while looking shocked by the request and there was an incredibly awkward dance between the pair.

Then the camera panned to PSG superstar Mbappe, who looked embarrassed by what had just played out on stage.
