MANCHESTER CITY are set to sign American goalkeeper Zack Steffen for £6million, according to reports.

The USA shot-stopper currently plays for Columbus Crew in the MLS.

But Pep Guardiola's side are closing in on bringing him to the Premier League – but only temporarily.

According to the Daily Mail, a work permit may not be awarded to the 23-year-old keeper which may see him leave on loan.

Potential destinations include Patrick Vieira's Nice and sister club Girona.

Negotiations between City and Columbus include add-ons that would see the deal rise to £10m.

Guardiola, meanwhile, has been preparing for his team's visit to Stamford Bridge this evening.

Champions City were leapfrogged by Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp's team beat Bournemouth in the lunchtime kick-off.

Guardiola's team need a point to return to the top spot.

But they face a Chelsea side coming off the back of Wednesday's defeat at Wolves, seeing them slip to fifth in the Premier League.
