But Solskjaer faces the toughest test of his managerial credentials on Sunday when he faces Premier League title challengers Spurs at Wembley.

And despite implementing an expansive style of play since taking over, Solskjaer concedes his side will have to curb their instincts this weekend.

He told Soccer AM: "When you play against a good team you have got to defend. You have to earn the right to win a game of football,"

"We're not going to go gung-ho and be naïve but Manchester United is about attacking football.

"Hopefully we can see that."

The run has seen them cut the gap to fourth place Chelsea to six points and Solskjaer says his side can still spring a surprise between now and the end of the campaign.

The 45-year-old added: "They know they are good players, they are playing for Manchester United.

"If we all stick together and do our best every day then we might just surprise a few with the way we could end the season."
