The holidays are quickly approaching and the temperature is dropping. Birmingham is celebrating by providing the community with a 50-by-70 foot outdoor ice rink at Railroad Park.

The rink will open at 10 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving and be available to the public through New Year’s Day. One can purchase a two-hour session for $10. For groups of 20 or more people, there is a discounted ticket of $8. Skates will be available for rental, however, skaters may bring their own.

The ice rink will be open from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Special holiday hours consist of noon until 8 p.m. on Christmas day and New Year’s Day.

Also featured at the park on Saturdays is the American Family Care Holiday Market. The market will be in Railroad Park from Nov. 26 through Dec. 24. Seasonal merchandise will be sold.

Located in Miami, Magic Ice USA will put together and maintain the ice rink. The company has ice rinks in Denver, San Francisco, Charlotte, Nashville and others throughout the country.

Railroad Park will put on theme nights throughout the holiday season such as tacky sweater night and others.

Boxer Café, located near the ice rink, will be selling hot chocolate and other winter refreshments and snacks.
