New year, new league: Things to come in men’s intramural football

The Samford Campus Recreation department made waves on Friday when they announced in an e-mail to every male captain that there will be an all men’s league after only four teams signed up to be in the A league.

“I think it is a great opportunity for B league teams to compete against the best of the best from A league,” said Sigma Chi Intramural Chairman, Tyson Buchanan. “It could really settle some arguments for teams who feel like they are A league worthy.”

There will be a lot of teams on the prowl this year looking to make a name for themselves. Without further ado here are some of the men’s teams to look out for this season.

Team Brute: Now I may be a little biased considering I am a “Brute,” but Quarterback Tanner Tapp has drawn comparisons to Johnny Manziel with his ability to scramble and make throws downfield. The team looks to come back strong after a semi-final trip last season in B League

Pi Kapp: Pi Kappa Phi won the A League championship last year and will look to defend their title this year. They were lead by their Quarterback Charlie Scott who graduated in 2017 so a repeat may be in question, but returning running back/wide receiver, Micah Lutz, may have to disagree with me.

Sigma Nu: Sigma Nu always has a strong year. They suffered a tough loss in last year’s A league championship, but I expect them to come out strong this season. They have a lot of returning starters.

Team Jake Petty: This is the new team on the block, but a lot of people have been talking about them at the office water cooler. This team is made up of several graduate students who are still trying to live in the glory days. The offense is lead by senior, Charlie Scott who captained Pi Kappa Phi to their championship win in 2016. The defense is lead by Hasty Moran who draws comparisons to Luke Kuechly. Keep an eye out for them.
