Regional College Football Update

Samford’s archrival Chattanooga beat Eastern Kentucky 23-14 with a stifling defensive showing. Meanwhile, SoCon foes Elon and Appalachian State both dispatched nonconference opponents. The Bulldogs had a bye week and will face Wofford on Sept. 24 in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Crimson Tide of Alabama took care of the North Texas Mean Green courtesy of a big day from star running back Trent Richardson. The Alabama defense shutout North Texas 41-0 in a crisp and dominate performance on the defensive side of the ball. The true test will come this weekend when the Tide host Arkansas with arguably the best receiving corps in the nation. This SEC West showdown will go a long way to decide who makes a trip to Atlanta in December.

Auburn fell to the Clemson Tigers in front of a raucous crowd at Death Valley Saturday afternoon. Despite an efficient performance from Barrett Trotter and an impressive showing by Michael Dyer, the offense could not keep up with the Clemson attack. Auburn’s young defense once again struggled mightily tackling in space and stopping the run. Auburn will meet the FAU Owls in Jordan-Hare at 6 p.m. Saturday.
