While many members of the student population took part in Step Sing’s opening night, the brothers from the Iota Chapter of Sigma Nu demonstrated their unwavering support of Samford Athletics instead. Nearly 75 percent of the fraternity attended the men’s basketball game against The Citadel on Thursday night.

“We’re not big fans of singing and dancing,” senior finance major and Sigma Nu brother Jack Burke said. “Coach Padgett has liked our support, so we wanted to come out and support the team.”

To accentuate their disdain for Samford’s vaunted singing and dancing competition, Burke, the fraternity’s “swag chairman,” designed T-shirts bearing the slogan “Step Sing Sucks.”

To complement their T-shirts, fraternity members sported dress coats and sneakers, modeling the outfits worn by the men’s basketball coaching staff during their most recent win streak.

“I would definitely say that Sigma Nu shows the most support at all the sporting events,” Burke said. “We’re big fans of all the teams.”

The only reason they hate it is because they do not have the talent to compete.
