Thursday kicks off Samford’s annual, long-awaited weekend tradition: Step Sing.
Since the beginning of spring semester, organized groups have given their time to put together original choreography and lyrics to win the coveted sweepstakes. This year, several groups have been added and a few changes have been made.
- New groups
Although many Greek organizations typically participate, with a new fraternity on campus, there will be a new show. The gentlemen of Alpha Tau Omega will take the stage to perform their show: “How to save a life.”
Another new group, Noteworthy, has emerged for this year’s competition. The group is composed of members from the School of the Arts and their show is titled “Work In Progress.”
- Name changes
The group formerly known as UM, has a new name this year. The co-ed group will perform “The Promotion” on stage this weekend.
- 20th anniversary of the Step Sing production truck
On Friday at 5 p.m., there will be an anniversary celebration for the Step Sing production truck hosted by The Media Center. To commemorate the anniversary, The Media Center is bringing a 52-foot production truck from the Super Bowl.
- Free live streaming
This year, to honor the 65th anniversary of Step Sing, Samford is offering free live streaming of the event for those who are unable to attend. To view the live stream, visit samford.edu/stepsing and select the live stream.
The winner of Sweepstakes will be announced Saturday night and will have the honor of holding the title until next year’s competition.
