The women’s tennis team (12-8) improved to 6-0 in conference play after picking up a pair of dominant road victories this past weekend.
The women blanked UNC-Greensboro on Saturday before doing the same to Western Carolina on Sunday, earning undisputed 7-0 victories in each match.
The Bulldogs used the momentum gained from sweeping the doubles points as a catalyst for their performance in singles play, as the team went 11-0 in individual matches and dropped only one set over the course of the weekend.
The doubles tandem of juniors Yasmeen Ebada, the reigning SoCon Player of the Week, and Jessica Northcutt extended their win streak to eight straight matches after posting an 8-4 victory on Saturday and an 8-0 victory on Sunday.
Junior Carita Moolman and freshman Savannah Wood have won their past seven matches in singles play.
The team will return to action on Saturday in their championship-determining regular season finale on the road against Chattanooga.
Since the Mocs are the only other undefeated team in the SoCon, the outcome will determine the regular season conference champion. First serve is scheduled for noon.
The men’s tennis team (7-10) dropped its fourth consecutive SoCon match on Saturday afternoon, falling to Mercer 5-2.
Eerily, each of the team’s last four defeats has been decided by identical margins, as the ‘Dogs have lost to ETSU, Wofford, Furman and Mercer by the same ill-fated score, 5-2.
The team will look to end the uncanny streak of losses today when they host Chattanooga at 3 p.m. The team’s lone senior, Austin Akers, will be honored at the match.
