Samford Volleyball went 1-1 this past weekend, beating East Tennessee State University 5-2 and losing to UNC at Greensboro 3-0.

Saturday afternoon Samford’s winning streak was snapped and lost their first SoCon game of the season. The Bulldogs lost both sets 25-19, 25-19.

“Put that loss up to the last two weeks of practice.” Head Coach Derek Schroeder said. “We have had it on cruise control in the last few weeks of practice and have scraped by with a few wins. Today that wasn’t in the cards.”

The Spartans had control all three sets, though when the Bulldogs seemed like they were getting momentum back with back-to-back service aces by senior sports administration major Chelsi Carter in the third set, UNCG came back and won the set 25-21.

Friday night the Bulldogs won their 11th straight game against ETSU, winning the first two sets, 25-17, 25-18. Though the ETSU Buccaneers came back after the half and won the next two sets 25-21, 25-18, forcing a fifth set. In the fifth set Samford picked back up the pace and won their 11th straight win and stayed undefeated in SoCon play.

Senior journalism and mass communications major Michaela Reesor posted a double- double with 22 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore undeclared major Erin Bognar had 18 kills, a service ace and five digs. Carter had a team high of 18 digs and three service aces.

The Bulldogs next game will be at home during homecoming week Wednesday Oct. 29 at 6 p.m. against Chattanooga. On Wednesday, Schroeder will be going for his 150th win in just seven seasons as head coach for Samford.
