Walk-off grand slam beats Auburn

The Bulldogs defeated visiting Auburn 8-5 on the strength of Phillip Ervin's walk-off grand slam.


Phillip Ervin stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth and delivered.

The sophomore drove a pitch from Auburn’s closer and hit it far over the left field wall at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The Bulldogs Samford grand slam via Samford Sports Networkwon 8-5, improving to 17-8 on the season.

Samford led 4-0, but Auburn took their first lead of the game in the eighth. The Bulldogs got on base in the ninth when a batter was hit by Auburn’s closer. Two singles followed, setting up the at bat for Ervin.

C.K Irby (3-0) was credited with the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning in relief.
