Redshirt junior forward and nursing major Taylor Reece led Samford with 18 points. This was her first game back after missing all of last season due to an injury.   Five other Samford players also scored in the double digits.

“I thought we adjusted and did a good job from a defensive standpoint in the second half. We had 22 assists tonight, which is a great thing to see because it shows we are sharing the ball. That’s a credit to our players being unselfish, but also understanding where open people are,” said head coach Mike Morris.

Freshman forward and history major Destiney Elliott scored 12 points and had eight rebounds. Sophomore guard and sports administration major Hannah Nichols and Junior guard and fitness and health promotion major Krista Stricklin had 10 points.

Montevallo’s Carrington Casie led the way with 15 points and Katie Colson had five rebounds.

Samford shot 56.7 percent and outshot Montevallo 45-29. The Bulldogs will open their regular season this Sunday at Memphis. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
