The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is examining what happened, and the Jackson Police Department has opened an internal investigation. The police department identified the officers involved as Avery Willis, Kenya McCarty and James Land.

“The loss of life is always tragic and we remain committed to transparency,” Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said in a separate statement Wednesday. “At this time, we do not have any additional comment as we allow the investigation to continue.”
